How
			to Use the Assembly

			Introduction:

Scripture informs us how necessary it is for us to tell others about
			Christ and His church.  (Mark
			16:15-16)  While
there are many ways to carry out this commission, we want to focus
on what Mark Copeland calls “congregational evangelism.”

			Body:

			I. What Is
			Congregational Evangelism?

			A.
			Using a congregation’s
			members

				-
				Making use of the
members’ contacts:  family, friends, neighbors, co-workers

				-
				Making use of the
members’ abilities:  Each member has some ability that he can
use.  A wide variety of gifts is listed in                 I
				Corinthians 12:4-11.

			B.
			Using a congregation’s
			assemblies

				-
				Most congregations
assemble three times a week for worship and Bible study.

				-
				These can have an
				impact on visitors.  (I
				Corinthians 14:23-25)
The impact can be positive or negative.

			II. How
			Congregational Evangelism Works

			A.
			By activating the members

				-
				Members must be
				committed to evangelism.  (I
				Peter 2:9-10)

				-
				Members must invite
				others to services.  (Use a phone call, a visit, a card, . . .)
				(John
				1:45-46)

				-
				We must show
kindness to those who visit.  (Hebrews
				13:2)

				-
				Make every effort
to be at every service.  (Hebrews
				10:24-25)
Think about the positive impression this will leave.

				-
				Make a prayer list
and pray every day.  “Pray without ceasing.”              (I
				Thessalonians 5:17)

			B.
			By activating the services

				-
				Members must arrive
early.  This is the most important time of the week!  It is a
great opportunity to meet and talk with those who are visiting.

				-
				Members must greet
the visitors.  Try to greet them as soon as they enter the
building or even in the parking lot.  You may talk with them in
between class and worship; but don’t let them leave the building
				without a friendly interaction.

				-
				Members must offer
worship that edifies and strengthens –           “. . .  Let all
things be done for edification. . .  Let all things be done
				decently and in order.”   (I
				Corinthians 14:26b-40)

					-
					Those who lead
must set an example making announcements, singing, leading
prayer, serving at the Lord’s table, preaching . . .

					-
					Every member
must set an example by how they sing; during prayer; (Colossians
					3:23)
Listen attentively.  Show how important hearing God’s Word
					is to you.  (Acts
					17:11)

			Conclusion:

Hopefully those who visit will be encouraged by what they see and
			they will want to return.
