Does God Really Exist?

Does God Really Exist?

Introduction:

The answer to the question: “does God exist?” Affects all other questions.  “If there is a supreme being then life has inherent purpose and some form of meaning.” Doctor Brad Harrub, PH. D. In anatomy and neurobiology from the University of Tennessee.

Why should every right thinking, rational human being believe in the existence of a supreme being?

1.      Every creation must have a creator

·         It's obvious the universe exists. Where did it come from? It's not eternal. Scientific evidence says it had a beginning. It didn't create itself from nothing. Ludicrous! Something cannot come from nothing. [1st and 2nd laws of thermodynamics]

The only possibility then is that it was created.

·         Since it was created, it had to have a creator.

Romans 1: 20 states “for since the creation of the world his invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and godhead, so that they are without excuse

Also, this creator had to have existed forever, or you would have to explain where the creator came from!

Psalm 102: 25-27 “Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will endure; Yes, they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak you will change them, and they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end.”

If ever at any time in the past, nothing existed, nothing would now exist.

Something therefore has to have existed forever.

2.      Every design must have a designer

·         paintings demand painters. Poems demand poets. Architecture demands architects. But what about the universe? Can it be accurately described as designed?

·         Consider the design of the earth? How could chance explain the earth being in just the right type of Galaxy, the right location in that Galaxy, the odds of being near the right kind of star, the right distance of that star, having the right rotation rate and proper tilt, possessing enough water, and having the right atmospheric conditions to sustain life? And that is just for starters!

·         Hebrews 3: 4 “for every house is built by someone, but he who builds all things is God

Colossians 1: 16 “for by him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, where they're thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through him and for him

The only honest conclusion is this:

Psalm 19: 1 “the heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows his handiwork

Isaiah 40: 26 “lift up your eyes on high, and see who has created these things, who brings out their host by number; he calls them all by name, by the greatness of his might and the strength of his power; Not one is missing

3.      Life must have a life giver

·         Every scientist knows that life does not just pop into existence from nothing. One of the most basic laws of science is the law of Biogenesis. This law states that life comes only from previous life and that of its kind. Note the words of evolutionist Neil Shubin: “I can share with you one true law that all of us can agree upon. This law is so profound that most of it take it completely for granted. Yet it is the starting point for almost everything we do in paleontology, developmental biology, and genetics. This biological law of everything is that every living thing on the planet had parents. Every person you've ever known has a biological parent, as does every bird, salamander, or shark you have ever seen. To put it in a more precise form: every living thing sprang from some parental genetic information.”

·         So then how did the first living thing come into existence? The only possible answer is that it came from a supernatural creative act.

Note Acts 17: 24-25 “God who made the world and everything in it, since he is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. Nor is he worshipped with man's hands as though he needed anything, since he gives in all life, breath and all things

1 Timothy 6: 13 “I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilot

4.      Morality demands a moral law giver

·         Why do people think that certain actions are right and other actions are wrong? Why do most people believe it is evil to torture a child just for the fun of it? Almost all people including atheists, you made that evil and good exist. Ask any non believer the following: would you have a problem if I came to your house and murdered your entire family? They would all say it was wrong.

·         But why is it wrong? Some people would reply because it was illegal. But the murder of millions of Jews by the Nazis in World War 2 was legal in Germany. So was that OK?  For something to be right or wrong demands an absolute standard of right and wrong.

·         So what is the standard and where did it come from? Did it come from rocks and slime or maybe bacteria? Has anyone ever heard of an evil elephant or an immoral pig? This standard of right and wrong, this moral code, this higher law could only have a regenerated from a moral lawgiver, god himself.

·         The Bible declares that God is holy.

Isaiah 6: 3 “and one cried to another and said: holy holy holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of his glory

God is just and righteous

Psalm 89: 14 “righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; Mercy and truth go before your face.”

The existence of these values is further evidence that God exists.

Conclusion:

“the fool has said in his heart, there is no God.” Psalm 14:1

There is an abundance of evidence available to any rational human being that God exists.

This same God has appointed a day in which he will judge the world. It's my prayer you will be ready for that great day.
