Many in the religious world believe that
a person cannot lose their salvation. So there is no real reason to remain
faithful to God. But salvation is conditional. We can lose it! Note the
following:
1.Acts 20:29-30, “For I know this, that after
my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. 30
Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to
draw away the disciples after themselves.” It is possible for
Christians to be drawn away.
2.1 Corinthians 9:23-27, “Now this I do for
the gospel's sake, that I may be partaker of it with you. 24 Do you not know
that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in
such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the
prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable
crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with
uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline
my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others,
I myself should become disqualified.” Speaking to Christians – Can be
Disqualified-not get the crown- possible not to finish.
3.1 Timothy 4:1-2, “Now the Spirit expressly
says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to
deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy,
having their own conscience seared with a hot iron.” Some Christians
will depart from the faith.
4.2 Peter 2:20-22, “For if, after they have
escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the
latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been
better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having
known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 But it has
happened to them according to the true proverb: "A dog returns to his own
vomit," and, "a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire."
these people had become Christians and were cleansed, but overcome with sin
to the point of being lost. Since a Christian can lose their salvation,
what are some reasons a Christian should remain faithful?
Body
1.Because of who God is:
·God is our creator, genesis 2:7. God
gave us the capacity to make moral decisions, to reason and use logic, to
worship.
·God is our provider- Matthew 6: 25-33.
God provides food, air, water.
·God is our savior- 2 timothy 1: 10; one
John 4: 14.
·God is our judge - Acts 17: 31; 10: 42.
2.Because of the life he wants us to live
·Christians have responsibilities - John
14: 15; 1 John 5: 3, Christians have commandments and duties, Luke 17: 7-10.
·A faithful Christian life makes us
better people - psalms 19: 7-11.\
·The faithful Christian life gives us
purpose - Galatians 2: 20; a life of good works - Ephesians 2: 10.
·The faithful Christian life impacts
others for good - Matthew 5: 16; 1 Peter 2: 11-12.
3.Because of a place God has prepared.
·Faithful Christians have a place
prepared for them - John 14: 1-3.
·The faithful look forward to a place of
glory - Romans 8: 18.
·Christians who remain faithful have a
place where we will abide in the son and the father - 1 John 2: 24-25.
·Christians who remain faithful have a
place where we will see the face of God - Revelation 22: 1-5.
4.Conclusion:
·Why remain faithful? Revelation 2:10,
“Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. The
Christian life is all about endurance and perseverance. James 1: 12. The
Christian life is about finishing the race as a faithful child of God.
Second Timothy 4: 7-8.
